Emterra Environmental Recognized for Inclusive Workplace

October 15, 2014

Emterra Environmental’s Surrey, British Columbia division has been recognized for its practice of promoting an inclusive workplace where employees feel valued and respected.

The recognition came as a nomination for Surrey’s Innovative Labour Solutions Awards in the ‘business over 10 employees’ category. Avia Employment Services, a division of Back in Motion Rehab Inc, put forward Emterra’s nomination citing it as an organization that is dedicated to being inclusive and for working with Avia to provide adults that have developmental disabilities with meaningful job opportunities.

Specializing in employment solutions Avia is part of the B.C. government’s WorkBC initiative which helps jobseekers who live in Coquitlam, Langley, Port Coquitlam, Richmond and Newton find employment.

“Avia nominated Emterra because management has shown great patience and understanding with several of our hard to place clients who have varying degrees of challenges and disabilities,” said Janice Huber, Job Developer, Avia Employment Services.

To be considered for this award, organizations must clearly demonstrate how they have developed an inclusive workplace, modified training and support within the workplace and acknowledged increases in productivities and revenues.

“Emterra is honoured to be nominated for this award. As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are committed to working with organizations such as Avia to empower adults with developmental disabilities by providing them with learning opportunities in a supportive workplace environment. We are proud to say that this is a practice in all of our operations throughout Canada,” said Emterra Founder and CEO Emmie Leung.

The Innovative Labour Solutions Awards recognize local employers and businesses that create a welcoming, respectful and inclusive workplace that provide job opportunities to adults with learning disabilities.

The awards are being co-sponsored by the City of Surrey, Community Living BC, Milieu Employment Services, the Rotary Club of Surrey and the Surrey Board of Trade. Winners will be announced on October 15th during the recognition event at the Eaglequest Golf Course in Surrey.
